Thought it was important for the cub scouts to be up on the weather when they are camping out..  So here is my "Crystal Cassette" radio.  Use a 688uh loop stick antenna coil with  a 220 pf  polycon variable cap, 5 clips, .01uh, 100K resistor, crystal ear piece and wella you have a portable radio covering most of the 540-1700  band. It's lightweight and easy to build.  WoW.. real clear and great Q with the polycon cap!  You can build it for under $12 USD. Add a 150 ft wire antenna and it works great!
